Useful Australian SitesThe Australian Tax Office great website that’s full of useful information (although the redevelopment of the site in February 1999 introduces tiny text and black backgrounds — not an improvement). It’s a particularly valuable resource if you are thinking about establishing your own business or working as a contractor or consultant. Centrelink provides information and registration for income support and job search assistance. Worksite is an initiative of the Australian Council of Trade Unions, aimed at secondary school students. The site is graphics intensive, so takes a while to load, but there’s some practical info if you have time to wait. United StatesHot Jobs is primarily aimed at experienced professionals, but also lists some entry-level jobs and some vacancies in locations other than the US. Users can customise the site to match their interests. Careerpath.com collects vacancy ads from newspaper classifieds and company websites. You can post a resume and sign-up for extra features by registering. CareerCity is specifically designed for technical and professional job seekers. Vacancies throughout the US and Canada are listed. Dice is a great destination for IT jobs. This site includes an "announce availability" function and lots of great value-added services. America's Job Bank is a partnership between the US Department of Labor and the public Employment Service. It boasted more than 80,000 job listings on the day we visited. United KingdomRecruit Media is based in London, and specialises in permanent and contract positions for creative and technical people, such as web designers, public relations practitioners and advertising execs. Jobsite lists vacancies for jobs in many different sectors throughout the UK and Europe. Also offers resources and information on job seeking, visas, higher educations and links to more sites. Other countriesjobs.co.za specialises in IT positions in the Republic of South Africa. Career developmentThe Career Development Manual is a huge workbook developed and hosted by the University of Waterloo (Canada). It guides the reader through self-assessment, occupational research, career/life planning and includes advice on resume and cover letter preparation.
